Libby, FareShare South West’s youngest food hero!

At 17, Libby is our youngest regular volunteer here at FareShare South West. She joined us back in November 2017, and comes in each Friday to volunteer with our afternoon team from 1-5pm.

The rest of her week, Libby is an AS level student studying Maths, Physics and History. She has a free period on Friday afternoons which she uses to come to our Bristol warehouse and pick food orders with the team. “I was worried about fitting in to certain shifts but it was really easy, and everything can be flexible.”

Libby has shown herself to be a true FSSW food hero since arriving- her dedication to volunteering and helpfulness don’t go unnoticed! She is often one of the last to leave, making sure the warehouse is sparkling clean before she heads off for the weekend.

“I really enjoy seeing the whole team each week being part of the solution. It’s crazy the amount of food which would go to waste and it is such a simple concept to bring it all together and get it out to the right people. You can really see what goes on from start to finish at the warehouse.”

Over 3 million tonnes of the food that goes to waste each year is still edible

That’s enough for seven billion meals
