FareShare South West joins the dots between food waste and hunger, empowering communities to turn an environmental problem into lasting social good. We rescue tonnes of quality surplus food from the industry and share it with charities and schools to bring health, dignity and routes out of poverty for people across the south west. Why are we advertising so many roles?

As well as our usual recruitment needs, FareShare South West has been granted Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate funding from Defra, which includes new fixed-term roles to help us rescue fresh, nutritious surplus produce directly from farms. These will enable us to access more food grown here in the south west, and support more local people.

FareShare South West is a Real Living Wage employer. We believe everyone who works for us deserves a salary that meets the costs and pressures they face in their everyday lives. All employees, regardless of age, receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.60, higher than the government minimum of £12.21 per hour.

Individual Giving Manager

Reporting to: Head of Fundraising
Salary: £31,000 – £34,000 per annum pro rata
Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours per week weekdays, with very occasional weekend or evening events
Terms:
Permanent contract, 25 days holiday pa (pro rata, exc. Bank Holidays), 5% pension contribution after 3 full months
Location: Our central office (Bristol) with some hybrid working optional. Will include
occasional travel to our warehouses in Bristol and Plymouth and other partners across the
south west

Purpose of the post

FareShare South West’s (FSSW) fundraising strategy and income streams have developed
and diversified rapidly in line with major growth since 2017. Individual giving (IG) became
a new major fundraising stream for us during the pandemic and is essential for ongoing
sustainability as we expand and launch new programmes and operations to fight hunger
and food waste.


The Individual Giving Manager (IGM) is responsible for all individual donor support
processes, systems, strategies and individual giving fundraising appeals, which ensure we
have excellent relationships with our donors to retain and grow our IG income. Powerful
narratives, storytelling and engagement with donors is crucial to ensure that our funding
need and impact is shared with supporters.


The IGM will work with the Head of Fundraising (HoF) and Deputy CEO (DCEO) to grow our
major donor, regular giving, appeal and legacy income alongside sustaining our irregular
giving and Gift Aid income.


The IGM will line manage the Fundraising Assistant (FA), which is a new entry-level
fundraising role responsible for the development and day-to-day administration of our
community fundraising income stream for individuals and corporate community. The IGM
will support the FA in developing processes and systems, data management and supporter
stewardship.

Food Sourcing and Gleaning Officer

Reporting to: Head of Food and Logistics
Salary: £25,000-£27,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (8.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday)
Terms:
Fixed term until 31st March 2026, 25 days holiday pa (pro rata, exc. Bank Holidays), 5% pension contribution after 3 full months: there will be a requirement to work some bank holidays
Location: Bristol or Plymouth, with travel across all sites

Purpose of the post

The Food Sourcing and Gleaning Officer plays a key role in FareShare South West’s mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger across the South West. You will be responsible for developing FareShare South West’s network of local suppliers, increasing the number of donations of good to eat surplus food to the organisation. The role also includes a focus on gleaning; this is the mobilisation of volunteers to pick surplus farm crops to be sent out to our network of charities. This forms part of a gleaning pilot project that is happening in 2025-26.

As an ambassador for FareShare South West, you will provide excellent customer service to food suppliers and work closely with our operations and logistics team to ensure food is transported safely, efficiently, and with care.

Community Food Produce Coordinator x2

Reporting to: Hub Manager
Salary: £25,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Terms: Full-time (9 months fixed term contract to end March ’26, with possibility to extend beyond this date), 25 days holiday pro-rata (exc. Bank Holidays), 5% pension contribution
Responsible for: Volunteers
Location: one role based at Sisna Park Hub, Plymouth; one role based mainly at our central Bristol hub but with some work at our other FareShare South West hub in south Bristol

Purpose of the post

Working with the Hub Manager & operations team, the Community Food Produce Coordinator will effectively support the warehouse operation, incoming goods, storage and dispatch of goods to Community Food Members (CFMs) receiving surplus food from FareShare South West to high levels of compliance and service. The role includes a focus on increasing the volume of food being redistributed, with particular focus on produce. This role will include supervision of a large and diverse team of volunteers throughout the week.

HGV Driver (7.5T) – Surplus Food Redistribution

Reporting to: Head of Food and Logistics
Salary: £26,000-£27,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30 with flexibility required between 07:00–18:30 depending on shift pattern)
Terms: Fixed term until 31st March 2026, 25 days holiday pa (pro rata, exc. Bank Holidays), 5% pension contribution after 3 full months: there will be a requirement to work some bank holidays
Location: Plymouth

Purpose of the role

The HGV Driver plays a key role in FareShare South West’s mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger across the South West. You will be responsible for collecting surplus food from suppliers and delivering it to our Plymouth depot. The role primarily involves driving a 7.5T vehicle and may also require operating other vehicles in our fleet.

Head of Employability and Volunteering

Reporting to: Director of Partnerships
Salary: £33,000 to £35,500 pro rata (depending on experience)
Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible working considered)

Location: Bristol or Plymouth
Manage: 5 staff across Employability and Volunteering

Purpose of the post

This role will be leading and developing the volunteering and employability functions for FSSW, alongside providing operational safeguarding support to the Safeguarding Team. The core volunteer program supports the running of the organisation as a whole every day and is embedded across all departments in Bristol and Plymouth. The Employability team runs a NEET Employability programme in our South Bristol warehouse 3 days a week, with administrative duties full time. This part of FSSW is expanding and your role will oversee the pilot and launch of another Employability programme in Plymouth.
In this role you will:

  1. Be the senior management overseeing and supporting the running of our employability and volunteering functions across Bristol and Plymouth
  2. Support the organisation as the Operational Safeguarding Lead, working alongside the Strategic lead to oversee incidents and support the training and development of staff
  3. Lead on project development across both volunteering and employability as we grow our offer and launch a number of major organisational developments. This will include but is not limited to; policy, strategy, role and process development
  4. Build and work with our volunteer, employability and warehouse teams to ensure that they have the skills, knowledge, support and training opportunities needed to manage the volunteer workforce and deliver the employability programs across the charity

Employability Programme Facilitator

Reporting to: Head of Employability and Volunteering
Salary: £25,388 pro rata (£20,310 pa)
Terms: Permanent Contract, 25 days Holiday (exc. Bank Holidays) pro rata, 5% pension contribution.
Hours: 30 hours per week
Location: Bristol with occasional travel

Purpose of the post

The purpose of the Employability Programme Facilitator role is to deliver FSSW’s FareChance programme, including employability learning and practical logistics sessions alongside support and collaboration with the Employability lead. The FareChance programme works with young people aged between 18 – 25 who experience additional barriers to accessing education, training or employment.  The young people are supported to learn new skills, build confidence and realise their full potential. Farechance provides a unique combination of two parts: the first is working alongside other volunteers and staff learning key warehouse and logistics skills, getting firsthand practical experience; the second is tailored employability sessions in small groups with 1-1 specialist support.

The facilitator will lead on running the employability and logistics sessions, with co-facilitation from volunteers or the employability lead where needed. This role will provide 1-1 support for young people where required and provide signposting and referrals to other specialist services. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting people to thrive and be sensitive to the inequality and power imbalance faced by young people today. They will have experience of supporting young people to achieve their goals and can bring these skills to deliver FareChance. This role will coach as well as co-ordinate the programme whilst supporting the growth of an innovative, supportive, and caring employability pathway for people to overcome barriers and move closer to the future they deserve.

Hub Manager

Reporting to: Head of Operations
Salary: £28,500 to £30,000 (depending on experience)
Terms: Permanent Contract, 25 days Holiday (pro rata, exc. Bank Holidays), 5% pension contribution.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, rota’d evening shifts and occasional weekends)
Location: Based at our Sisna Park Hub, Plymouth (PL6), with ad hoc support to our Bristol Hubs (Little Ann Street, BS2 and Vale Lane Hub, BS3) 
Manage: Approximately 5 staff across Operations and Volunteering (plus volunteers)

Purpose of the post

The Hub Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a FareShare South West hub, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operations that maximise the volume of surplus food received, stored and distributed to our Community Food Members (CFMs). This includes managing a mixed team of staff, FareChance employability participants and volunteers in their operational tasks, maintaining high operational and health & safety standards, and collaborating with colleagues across food & logistics, compliance and community engagement.
