Van Driver

Our volunteer van drivers are vital to our operations. Drivers make sure our food gets delivered to schools, charities and community groups across the South West! Together with your driver’s mate, you’ll spend the day (9am – 3pm) out and about collecting and delivering food. You must be over 18, have a standard driving license and be happy to drive a van. Our volunteer team and Fleet Manager will provide a full induction, training and support.

Volunteering here is a helpful way to spend my week now that I am retired. As a van driver I enjoy seeing the range of charities out there that FSSW delivers food to. The staff and other volunteers are very supportive here.

Warehouse Assistant

Our warehouse volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Warehouse volunteers are of all ages and from all walks of life. They’re responsible for sorting and packing the vital food orders that go out each day to charities across the South West. Every day is different, and you’ll be part of a friendly, supportive and welcoming team.

There is a great work environment at FareShare South West. Everyone - from top to bottom - is friendly. My responsibilities change every day I am here, and I enjoy representing a charity which supports our community.

Driver's Mate

A crucial member of the van crew, Driver’s Mates work alongside drivers to collect and deliver food to charities, schools and foodbanks across the South West. You’ll help plan routes, navigate, and load and unload vital food supplies. On the way, you’ll get to know the people we deliver food to, as well as other volunteers and members of the FareShare South West team.

It's crazy the amount of food that is wasted, and this is such a simple concept of bringing it all together to redistribute. You can really see what goes on from start to finish.

It's brilliant to be able to use my skills to help a charity that's local to me and making a real impact. The team are friendly, flexible and super hard-working and I've learned loads from them over the last few months.

Corporate Volunteer Days

Looking for ideas to engage your team?

Corporate volunteering days are available for small groups in Bristol (one full day shift a week at our two warehouses, Little Ann and Vale Lane) and in Plymouth at our Sisna Park warehouse.

We usually reserve these days for corporate partners who support us with financial donations or staff fundraising throughout the year. If you’d like to join us just for the day, we ask that you make a donation of £50 per person per shift.

If you’re able to offer other forms of pro bono support using your team’s skills, please get in touch!

Email corporatevolunteers@faresharesouthwest.org.uk to register your interest. Thank you!

I have to say I had no idea of the scale of the issue before I came in here to volunteer. I've learnt so much today. I couldn't believe the quality of the food - or that it would have otherwise gone to waste."
Lucy, HSBC volunteering day

FareShare is the only charity to take food from the wholesale level of the food industry

The vast majority of surplus occurs before food even gets to the supermarket. Each member of the FareShare network rescues that food and delivers it to those in need. FareShare Go is our supermarket collection service, which deals with supermarket-level surplus.
