New Holiday Hunger Campaign Announced with an Aim to Double Impact

This week we announced the launch of our summer campaign, ActiveAte Bristol. The campaign, which aims to raise the profile of school holiday hunger will see thousands of meals provided to in excess of 40 holiday projects in and around Bristol.

To ensure Bristol locals are made fully aware of this pressing local issue, FareShare South West has also enlisted a number of local cafes who will be serving a ‘green’ item throughout the school holidays, with a percentage of profits donated to us. Local favourites already committed, include:
Tincan Coffee Company, Yurt Lush, Box-E Bristol, Café Des Amis and Bristol Community Cafes CIC. Community groups and local businesses are also getting involved by hosting green themed coffee mornings!

Julian Mines, CEO of FareShare South West, says: “With just over 7,300 Primary School pupils in Bristol receiving free school meals during term time, a vacuum is left when the holidays begin. We know that 1 in 4 children in Bristol is at risk of experiencing hunger and this will become a reality for many of them in those summer months. Food insecurity is sadly a growing issue in our region but we hope to support as many children as possible with this summer – double that of last year. We’d love more cafes or community groups to get involved, get creative and raise awareness with their ‘green’ food item. By raising awareness with as many Bristol locals as possible, it will mean we can help even more children across their school holidays, this year and in future years.”

FareShare is the only charity to take food from the wholesale level of the food industry

The vast majority of surplus occurs before food even gets to the supermarket. Each member of the FareShare network rescues that food and delivers it to those in need. FareShare Go is our supermarket collection service, which deals with supermarket-level surplus.
