Celebrating 5,000+ hours of volunteering: Thank you to our pledge 35 heroes!

Last month, we celebrated a huge milestone at the Manadon Sports and Community Hub – over 200 of our Pledge 35 volunteers have now dedicated over 5,000 hours to fighting hunger and tackling food waste across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall!

Pledge 35 is part of Project 35, an award-wining initiative by Plymouth Argyle and Ginsters to combat poverty. It encourages their fanbase (the Green Army) and local residents to volunteer 35 hours with local charities like ours!

Our Pledge 35 volunteers showed their commitment to those hit hardest by the cost-of-living crisis at our Christmas hamper appeals, community larder, and by picking and packing food for our charity members, to being out on the vans making deliveries.

Thanks to out volunteers, our Plymouth warehouse redistributed a fantastic 66 tonnes of food in the month of July – that’s 157,143 meals delivered to those who need it most!

“It’s a travesty that so many local people are living with food insecurity, not knowing where the next meal is coming from. We’re incredibly grateful for the volunteers from Project 35 for their commitment, enthusiasm, and generosity.”

Lucy Bearn, CEO of FareShare South West.

The evening was a blast with presentations, delicious pasties (Thanks, Ginsters!), and live music from the talented Three’s Company. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to recognise and celebrate our Pledge 35 volunteers’ hard work and dedication.

To everyone who has already put in their 35 hours, and especially to those who’ve gone above and beyond, THANK YOU! Let’s keep this momentum going as we enter year Three of Project 35.
