FSSW volunteers Barry and Dee get engaged

FareShare Food Heroes Denise Dale (56) and Barry Coles (55) have just become engaged! They met 3 years ago while volunteering here at FareShare South West, and have been inseparable ever since. We are so happy to hear of their news and have been celebrating in our Bristol warehouse!

Full time carer Denise has been a volunteer at FareShare South West for six years. She picks, packs and sorts the food orders in the warehouse ready for them to go out to vulnerable people. Barry is a volunteer van driver for FareShare and delivers the food to local charities and community groups that then make nutritious meals for local people in need.

“The work that Fareshare does is brilliant and I have learnt a lot, even gaining an NVQ in Warehousing and Storage. Finding love has been a bonus, so who knows what volunteering could lead to and for anyone,” says Denise.

Barry asked Denise to marry him unexpectedly over a drink at their local pub – and happily Denise said yes! The lovebirds celebrated the good

news with family and friends over dinner, and are due to be married in June 2020.

The food waste hierarchy calls for food to feed people first

Food companies are legally obliged to use food to feed people before sending to anaerobic digestion or for animal feed. We help them do that.
