Since May 2020, Ginsters (a division of Samworth Brothers Ltd.) have supplied almost 7 tonnes of food into our central Bristol warehouse, allowing us to supply food for over 16,000 meals across the South West.
This partnership with Ginsters is only set to grow in alignment with FareShare South West’s own expansions plans; both within Bristol and with key partners located across the South West. One element of this will be the opening of a new South Bristol warehouse, which will increase the quantity of food we receive from Ginsters by at least two pallets per week.
There are also plans for additional hubs and warehouses at points throughout Devon and Cornwall, enabling even more of Ginsters’ surplus food to be redistributed to our member charities, schools and community groups.
Ginsters have said that, as a local food business, preventing poverty in the region is key in their values of supporting communities and doing the right thing. They have stated that supporting those most in need, including vulnerable groups, is incredibly important to their ethos. Read more here about how they do their bit to ensure what they do is sustainable.
Alice Rumbold, from Ginsters says “Our partnership with FareShare South West is a natural fit; our surplus food donations help to feed those most in need and food waste is naturally reduced. The infrastructure and food safety due diligence that FareShare South West have in place to support its members, and protect our communities has helped to break through red tape previously encountered when donating branded, chilled surplus food”
Not only has this partnership been mutually beneficial in tackling surplus food waste and helping to feed those most in need in our communities, the folk at Ginsters have been overwhelmed by the interest the partnership has had within their own team.
Alice says “The sense of ‘doing our bit’ during such unprecedented times has ignited passion to do more, so in 2021 we aim to launch a team engagement project giving our team to opportunity to volunteer time and energy to our local FareShare South West hubs.”
FareShare South West have been accepted onto the Big Give Green Match Fund – where all donations made between 22nd – 29th APRIL will be matched and doubled! The money will go towards helping us make more connections with local food suppliers to collect their surplus and extend our reach across the region.
