The kindness of strangers never ceases to amaze me: From the 8th to 10th July 2011, Sainsburys (one of FareShare’s largest and long term supporters) went the extra mile with their “Meal Appeal” campaign:
At 19 depots, 890 stores countrywide and online; staff, customers and volunteers alike organized, promoted, donated and broadcast the same message: Food Waste is avoidable – Sainsbury’s are commercial proof of this and their customers clearly support the message.
In the South West we were very blessed to receive over a tonne of food, Jacqui Reeves, Project Manager at FareShare South West was thrilled: “I was amazed with the generosity of people who gave so easily for the basic human need – food” “The team at Winterstoke Sainsbury’s were really supportive and enthusiastic. Thank you Sainsbury’s” This equates to 2381 meals for our community members who feed the most vulnerable people in our city.
You’d think that was the end of it, but no! Sainsbury’s are committed to repeating this type of event over the coming 5 years. We can’t wait.
To know that Sainsbury’s are behind us, consistently supporting us and upping the anti, especially in these more austere times, is phenomenal. Without the constant support of companies like this and their generous customers our job would be very hard indeed. We are ever grateful and ever humbled by the generosity and kindness of people who give so freely to those they do not know.
So to every one of you reading this, thank you, a million times over.
