April news update

April 25, 2008

Onwards and upwards!

We continue to make progress, and since our last newsletter on the 15th February 2008, we are pleased to report that we have distributed a further 34 tonnes of food! That’s 74 tonnes since we opened on the 10th October 2007. We are now delivering to 32 organisations throughout Bristol and the South West, and we have had 74 volunteers working with us to date. We are also delighted to welcome onboard Marks & Spencer and Pertwood Organic Cereals from Wiltshire – further food partners who have agreed to donate surplus produce to us.

Corporate Team Days

Fareshare South West are now running Corporate Volunteer Team days, which enable staff from our corporate partners to work with colleagues from other departments alongside our own volunteers, for an enjoyable and rewarding day out of the office. So far we have had 26 employees from Coutts volunteering with us once a month, which has been a great success. In May we are looking forward to welcoming our first team from Sodexho.

Volunteer facilities and courses

We are pleased to have recently received funding to further develop our volunteer facilities, including a rest area for breaks, and IT facilities for job search and CV writing. In addition our volunteers are continuing to take advantage of training opportunities, such as food hygiene and first aid courses. We have also run three basic food hygiene courses.

If you are interested in finding out more about the food service or volunteer/work placement opportunities, please contact us.
